Stimulating Research in Schools with Orbyts
13:15 - 14:00
The UK is still facing a teaching shortage, and in particular across the STEM subjects. Alongside this, a quarter of UK students say they are not engaging with physics in the classroom. As scientists, we have a responsibility to disseminate accessible information not only to inform but inspire others. This can be achieved through sustainable and impactful outreach.
In this lunch session, we will discuss the impact of multisession outreach projects in schools through the lens of Orbyts initiative. We will highlight how you can get involved as well as provide tips on inclusive learning which can be implemented within your teaching and mentorship.
Orbyts is partners scientists with schools to empower school students to undertake world-leading research. We aim to address diversity issues in science and to support short-supply science teachers who have extensive time pressures. We accomplish this through multi-term partnerships that are proven to transform science inclusivity, inspire school students and teachers, and ignite scientists' leadership potential. Orbyts provides a training program to all of its researchers and teachers, so everyone can participate with confidence.
