The following guidelines are designed to help you prepare, print, and present your poster effectively at Photon 2026, ensuring a smooth and successful poster session experience.
1. Poster Format & Dimensions
- Size: A0 (841 mm × 1189 mm)
- Orientation: Portrait
- Material: Paper or lightweight fabric posters are acceptable
Recommended Font Sizes
- Title: 70–120 pt
- Section headings: 36–48 pt
- Body text: 24–32 pt
- Captions: 18–24 pt
2. Poster Design Guidelines
To maximise readability and impact:
- Use a clean, well-structured layout that guides the reader logically through your work
- Choose high-contrast colour schemes to ensure accessibility
- Keep content concise and easy to scan
Your poster should include:
- Poster title
- Author(s) and affiliation(s)
- Introduction or background
- Key results (figures, charts, or tables)
- Conclusions or key takeaways
- Acknowledgements and references (if applicable)
Best practice tips:
- Ensure all images, figures, and data are clearly labelled and properly attributed
- Avoid overcrowding—prioritise clarity over detail
- Design for readability at a distance of 1–2 metres
3. Poster Setup & Display
- Display boards: A0 portrait boards with Velcro fittings
- Fixings: Velcro will be provided on-site
- Setup time: From 10:30 on Tuesday 1 September
- Removal time: From 14:00 on Friday 4 September
Important: Posters not removed after the designated time may be disposed of.
4. Poster Session Information
- Presenters are expected to stand by their poster during their assigned session which will be confirmed approximately 2 weeks before the start of the event.
- Session 1: Tuesday 1 September
- Session 2: Thursday 3 September
- Be prepared to briefly introduce your work and engage in discussion
- Posters should remain on display for the full duration specified in the programme
5. Accessibility & Support
We are committed to providing an inclusive and accessible experience. Please let us know in advance if you require:
- Assistance with poster mounting
- An accessible display location
- Help transporting or handling your poster
6. Poster Printing Service
To support presenters travelling to Photon 2026, an optional poster printing service is available.
Key Information
- Posters will be printed in A0 portrait format in line with conference requirements
- Printing will be handled by an approved local supplier and delivered directly to the venue
- Printed posters will be ready for collection and display on arrival
How to Order
- Email you final poster file to claire.garland@iop.org
- Ensure your file is:
High resolution (minimum 300 dpi)
Set to A0 portrait dimensions
Saved as a PDF
Deadlines
- Submission deadline: 14 August 2026
- Late submissions may not be accepted and will incur a 25% surcharge.
Costs- The cost of the printing service is £40 per poster
Important Notes
- You are responsible for checking your poster carefully before submission (spelling, layout, image quality)
- Reprints due to errors in submitted files cannot be guaranteed
- If you choose not to use this service, please ensure you bring your printed poster with you
